Whilst stuck in isolation, I decided to enter the 48 Hour Film Festival for the first time. Using my Canon M50 camera and cell phone mic for audio, I explored the limitations of solo filmmaking while following the strict COVID-19 lockdown conditions.

Upon roping my little brother Aaron into playing the lead, I wrote the film with numerous limitations in mind, writing a one-man script using one location lead primarily by an intriguing plot element, that being the GOD_MODE program. I wanted to guide a story visually, rather than explaining the concept and its origins. Having fun with the concept was the goal, a trait a lot of 48 hour short films miss out on by filling the runtime with an abundance of exposition.

I had a blast filming GOD_MODE.exe, although my brother didn't share the same excitement.. Acting isn't a prospect Aaron shares an interest in, although he's gladly committed to a few homemade projects with myself and our eldest brother Dean. While he dislikes acting, some simple direction and encouragement contributed to his integral performance in the film.

While the film would've benefited from extra hands on set, it provided ample space to experiment in solo filmmaking, challenging my various skillsets to their limits. I'm very proud of the film and look forward to making another with Aaron, if he can still put up with me, that is.
